Women's Lacrosse Earns Road Win At RPI

Laurel Pascal scored a team-best three goals to lead third-ranked Middlebury to an 11-8 victory over 20th-ranked Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) at Renwyck Field. With the win, the Panthers improve to 4-0 on the season, while the Engineers drop to 1-3. Middlebury returns to action on Saturday when they host Bowdoin at 10:30 a.m.

Pascal scored two goals late in the first half to give the visitors a 6-5 lead at the break. Her go-ahead goal with 4:58 remaining in the opening stanza came from a free-position attempt.

Rensselaer’s Marissa Page tied the game at 6-6 just 45 seconds into the second half, off a feed from Erin Riley, but Middlebury answered with a three-goal run – including a pair of tallies by Liza Herzog –  to take a 9-6 lead.

Rachel Scofield netted her fifth of the season with 11:48 to play, bringing the hosts to within 9-7, but the Panthers fought back with two straight to all but put the game out of reach.

The Engineers netted the game’s final goal, as Meg Colitz scored her second of the game and third of the year, with an assist from Riley.

Aiding Pascal offensively for Middlebury, was Herzog, who had two goals and an assist. Chrissy Ritter chipped in with a pair of markers. Herzog added five draw controls, while goalkeeper Alyssa Palomba made four saves and caused three turnovers.

Page led Rensselaer with three goals, while Colitz and Michelle Denny had two apiece. Erin Amarello stopped seven shots for the Engineers.
